It will take much longer to get natural darker colored hair light enough to take a pastel or silver color.

Start by washing your hair less frequently. Wash in cold to luke-warm water—never hot. Invest in a dry shampoo! There are many wonderful products to help hide those natural scalp oils in between washes. When you do wash your hair, make sure to use only sulfate-free products. Sulfates are the active ingredient in most shampoos and tend to strip color with their cleansing and sudsing effect.
