So you’re at the salon looking over the color treatment service menu and you get a little puzzled. Should you have the single process color or should you go for the double process? Well one thing’s for sure: single process will probably take a little less time and save you money.
Single Process means that a new color or toner is applied all over to create a new base color that is probably only 2 shades lighter than your natural hair color (virgin hair). The hair is lifted and deposited in one easy step. It’s the most common out of the two and it’s wonderful for covering grays and adding shine to dull hair.
Double Process is typically used when lightening hair by more than two shades. First the hair is bleached to remove natural or colored hair pigments and then pigment is added into the hair to create the desired shade. To avoid hair drama leave this one to the pros. Remember, box dye is NOT easy to remove and may take up-to 6 hours to achieve your desired color. Double process does NOT mean single process w/highlights or adding highlights and lowlights.

Whats the easiest way to do a virgin bleach-out? What color should the hair be for a good bleach-out? How do you bleach-out some one with tinted hair? How do you do a bleach-out on someone that already has bleached highlights? These are not easy to answer questions so unfortunately we will not be able to answer on those questions in full detail. What to Look for in a good bleach-out (double process) — The appropriate color to look for in a good bleach-out will depend on the toner used. The toner manufacturer will usually advise a pre-bleach-out to a specific color like gold yellow or pale yellow. The reason for this is because the tertiary colors in toner are specifically designed to work with that specific shade of prelightened hair.
When doing a Double Process the bleach-out is the most important step in the whole process. If the bleach-out is not done correctly there is no way that the finished product will look right. Some hair types or previously applied color may result in 2 to 3 bleach-out double processes.
