Best Double Process Hair Coloring Salons NYC. Single Process vs. Double Process

Best Double Process Hair Coloring Salons NYC. Single Process Color vs. Double Process!

At Fine Artistik Salon, we know many of you don’t speak the same lingo as our L’Oreal Professional colorists/stylists. We are the best double process hair coloring salons NYC because we use the best and up to date hair coloring products.

It can be confusing going over a salon menu when you don’t know what anything means – like what’s the difference between single process vs. double process color? We’re here to school you on picking the best most cost and time effective solutions for your hair care needs.

best double process hair coloring salons nyc

A single process hair color is all over, one dimensional color that can be used to darken or lighten hair. Plus it’s gentle on both your hair and your wallet and is a great solution for covering up greys. If you’re thinking it sounds like an DIY at home treatment well you’re right. But, no matter how easy you think it might be it’s always best to trust a professional. You don’t know how one shade will react with the color you already have and believe us, orange hair is nothing to joke about. A single process won’t damage your hair and can turn dull hair shiny and vibrant.

Double process on the other hand is a little more complicated. It’s used when lightening the hair by more than two shades. It’s called double process because it is actually a two step process. First the hair is bleached to remove your natural color then toned to create the shade you’re going for. Like single process it is all over color but it’s the only way for people with dark hair to achieve those Marilyn Monroe-esque light shades. Many people think Marilyn Monroe when they hear double process but the results can range from natural looking like Kate Winslet to severe blonde bombshell like Anne Hathaway.

Whether you decide to perform a single process color or double process on your hair remember, like anything else, hair needs to be cared for – especially when using a double processing treatment. Hair that is double processed often has a high volume of breakage and split ends.

That is why we offer the OLAPLEX treatment. Using a deep conditioner avoiding daily heat styling as much as possible and applying a hot oil treatment once every few weeks to keep your strands healthy, shiny and most importantly intact.

Do you have a hair dilemma? Give us a call or shoot us an email and we would love to assist you! Our L’Oreal Professional team specializes in hair coloring double process and hair color correction.

Best Hair Color Correction Salons NYC. Color Correction, Highlights Correction, Balayage Highlights Correction & Ombre Highlights Correction.

Best Hair Color Correction Salons NYC! What is Hair Color Correction? Have you ever been told that you will need a color correction in order to achieve the color you want? You were probably left wondering “What is a color correction what does it entail and do I even want one?”

best hair color correction salons nyc

So as not to launch into cosmetology school 101 in this Blog post we will try to break this down as simple as possible. Keeping in mind that every single color situation is different and that every color correction is extremely complex there are two general types of color corrections (this is making it VERY general as there are limitless possibilities when it comes to color and correcting it). Both would be considered color corrections if you are changing previously artificially colored hair. However, virgin hair can also require color corrections as well. The first type of color correction is making dark color much lighter. The other makes light color much darker. Both may entail multiple color services sometimes done all in one day and sometimes done over a period of weeks or months.  Typically a color correction service can be very costly, time consuming, and sometimes can even be damaging to the hair. If you have colored your hair dark and now want to be a lot lighter all over it is not as easy as it sounds. Your hair might need to be “color cleansed” one or more times then colored again to achieve a nice tone. If you have very light hair and want to go much darker it may need to be colored two or more times in order for the color to stay. Our L’Oreal Professional colorists will know which tones to put into the hair to help the color to last longer be a pretty tone and not fade right away.

If you are looking for a big change in your hair color here is what we recommend:

Call your hair salon and ask if they do complimentary hair color consultations. Most do. Let them know over the phone whether you have colored hair and that you are looking for a big change (whether you are wanting to go lighter or darker) and want to talk to a professional colorist about what options they recommend. This will allow the salon to book the correct amount of time for your consultation.

Bring to your consultation: Pictures of what you want to do to your hair and an honest list of your color history. Anything that you have put on your hair whether it is sun in a shine treatment a box color from the store  smoothing/straightening/perming/Brazillian Smoothers etc. It is all part of your color history and your stylist needs to know! Also, if you are pregnant always let your stylist know right away if you get any kind of chemical services. Or, if you are allergic to color! Very important.

Ask lots of questions and make sure your colorist gives you a few different options to choose from. Some options might get you very close to your results in one day and other options might take more time but over the long run be less damaging.

best color correction salons nyc

Get price quotes (keep in mind these are usually just general quotes, the stylist never really knows until they are performing the service how much color will be required) and an approximate time of how long you should expect to be at the salon that day. Some color corrections can take 6 hours or more! So be prepared (and bring a snack!).

If you don’t have a salon that you call home yet, book at least three consultations with different salons. This will give you a better idea of your options what costs to expect and will help you make a better decision for the health and outcome of your hair.

Do not try to do it yourself at home! Color is very complex chemical process and is different for every person. A major change like this should be done by a professional. If you attempt to do it yourself at home there are high chances that it will go wrong and it will even complicate everything more.

After your consultation you should have a good idea of how you would like to proceed and the salon can book your future appointment accordingly. Color can be overwhelming but with the right team of hair professionals by your side you can achieve amazing results anytime you want to change your look!

We saw everything from temporary sparklers to more committed neon styles at a rate so fast our heads were swimming with rainbow swirls.

Best Grey Pastel Hair Dye Salons NYC. Silver Metallic Pastel Hair Dye Salons NYC!

Best Grey Pastel Hair Dye Salons NYC. Best Silver Grey Pastel Hair Color Salons NYC!

Nowadays when many girls want to add color to their hair they pick a pastel hue. And we get why. The palette is more daring than hair color trends like vacation hair or tortoise shell hair that aim to enhance your natural color — ’cause let’s face it taking your locks from a natural to cotton candy is gonna turn heads — yet it’s soft enough to not feel too rebellious. It’s that often-elusive sweet spot for taking your look to the next level. Best Grey Pastel Hair Dye Salons NYC!

best grey pastel hair dye salons nyc

Last year lilac was the hue to have with celebs like Nicole Richie and Kelly Osbourne leading the charge for all-over light purple locks. Rainbow hair also trended in 2015 and with dazzling multi-hued strands celebs like Rita Ora and Lily Allen made the case that one color just wasn’t enough. This year pink seems to the the pastel of choice — Hilary Duff, Julianne Hough and Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting all went pink — so for now it’s safe to say bubblegum is the new bombshell. But what can we expect next?

The next big thing the trend is here too! Adding the smokiness to the colors is going to be it. Like adding gray into a pink to create a smokey pink. Kind of more metallic-y.

It turns out we’re already starting to see hints of this trend around Hollywood on a lot of the stars who’ve already taken the pastel plunge. Just recently, Hilary Duff did just that — mixing gray and pink — after her ocean-colored hair faded into a gorgeous dusty blue-green. Kelly Osbourne’s lilac pomp has always had a silvery shine to it. And when Nicole Richie deepened her purple locks to a dark teal, smokey blue streaks gave it dimension.

best silver grey metallic pastel hair dye salons nyc

If a smokey pastel mane sounds like the way you want to take your hair to the next level, there are a few ways to get the look — our Master colorist, Jacob Amin, has the lowdown. Girls who already have bright pastel locks can take the lazy girl approach to a smokier shade by washing their hair with clarifying shampoo to help fade the color (think: Hilary Duff’s mermaid green to seaweed tinge in just a few washes).

If you want to start from scratch — always with freshly bleached locks — and DIY the look, you can use whatever pastel pigment you want + silver or gray pigment and add the mixture into your shampoo or conditioner to create a hint-of-gray color. Or if you’re looking for a less experimental approach simply ask one of our L’Oreal Professionnel colorists for a very cool pastel color. Cool means that there is an ashy undertone to the color. Granny hair just got way chicer 🙂

Would you try out the next big pastel hair trend?

Best Balayage Ombre Highlights Salons NYC. Thinking about a change?

Best Balayage Ombre Highlights Salons NYC. Balayage Highlights. Ombre Highlights. Foils Highlights.

Hair maintenance can be tricky. “Best Balayage Ombre Highlights Salons NYC”. There’s so much information out there that deciphering which advice to follow can be overwhelming. Should you wash your hair everyday or ditch shampoo altogether? Do regular trims really make your hair grow faster? And then there’s the most complicated of them all: Am I making hair highlight mistakes?

best balayage ombre highlights salons nyc

Highlights seem simple enough. You just want to go lighter right? But deciding which shade to go proves a lot more difficult than it looks. Then there’s the type of highlights: do you want to go to the root blonde? Or are you after something more ombre? Balayage? And then you’ve got the maintenance. Knowing how to care for your colored hair is crucial but it’s so often overlooked because you think once the color is done it’s good to go. And that is definitely not the case.

Going bleach blonde right away – If you are going light for the first time consider going ombré or just trying a darker shade of blonde first. Yes, we know “blondes have more fun” but making the switch from dark to light can be shocking so ease yourself into it to avoid any regret.

Not considering the different types of highlights – Foils aren’t your only option anymore. Balayage or painted highlights has become increasingly popular for its sun-kissed look. If you don’t mind some roots poking through balayage allows for a more natural grow out but it’s less severe than going ombré. Plus, it’s actually healthier for your hair. But if you want to be full all-over blonde foils are probably your best bet.

Not asking the right questions – You assume you’ll love your color and you trust your stylist but if it’s your first time getting highlights not asking the right questions can get you into trouble. What if you don’t like the color? What are your options to correct it? What if you decide to dye it darker — can you do that on top of the highlights? How often will you need to get touch ups? Make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into before you let any color touch your hair. ESPECIALLY if you’ve box dyed your hair! The results will never be exact. With drug store box dye brands it takes 4-6 visits to the salon to achieve your desired color.

best-balayage-ombre-highlights-salons-nyc-jacob-amin

Not considering a base color – We’d all love our blonde to end up looking like Blake Lively’s but you have to consider your natural hair color. If you have red undertones in your hair highlights could end up looking brassy or orange. You may want to do a neutral base color first and then highlight on top of that to ensure the right shade of blonde results. We are not magicians. We are hair professionals and we are here to help you. Sometimes it requires 3-4 bleaching processes to remove the red orange or brassy tones.

Picking the wrong shade of blonde – Not all blondes are created equal. If you have fair skin stick to lighter shade but go with darker shades of blonde if you have olive tan or dark brown skin tones. Also consider your undertones — if you have pink undertones in your skin avoid warmer blondes. Instead, go for a cooler blonde.

Using the wrong shampoo – Make sure you use a shampoo specifically for color-treated hair to protect your highlights and try to use a purple shampoo once a month to neutralize brassiness. Also, washing with hot water, hot water can turn your highlights yellow or orange, so wash with cold water to protect your color.

Not deep conditioning – Highlighting and therefore lifting pigment from your hair will dry it out. To prevent breakage use a deep conditioner once a week and don’t over do it on the hot appliances.

Getting color too often – Some people rush to the salon every six weeks like clockwork or every time a root peeps its dark head out but going too often can result in your color looking too over-processed — not to mention it’s damaging to your hair and expensive! With balayage & ombre highlights is allows the hair to grow our more natural looking and minimize salon visits for 4-6 months.

Best Hair Color Salons Upper East Side NYC. Dyeing Brown Hair To Blonde!

Best Hair Color Salons Upper East Side NYC. Are you a brunette wanting to go lighter? Blonder?

With summer on the horizon we can’t help but crave a hair change whether it’s a cute cut or a more playful color. And although pretty much anyone can do the former the latter proves to be a bit more difficult for brunettes and darker-haired girls. Best Hair Color Salons Upper East Side NYC! Still that hasn’t stopped gals like Vanessa Hudgens and Zoe Kravitz from ditching their darker-hued locks which means it shouldn’t be holding you back either. But before you commit to making the drastic transition there are a few things you should know. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind when planning out your hair makeover.

best hair color salons upper east side nyc

Find a colorist based on recommendations. Ask your friends who have a good blonde. You need to find someone that can do your hair right because if it gets messed up from the beginning sad to say it’s hard to fix. Be sure to find a salon that’s known for their color and come in with all the questions you have about dyeing your hair blonde. Scheduling a consultation with the person who is going to do your color then if you feel comfortable make the change. And make sure to bring photos!

Don’t rush. Although that change can be made in one day it’s healthier for your hair to take things slowly. We suggest using a few different techniques to make things look more natural. At Fine Artistik Salon, we would do foiling and balayage that way you can get a little bit closer to the face and lighten the ends with an ombre. That way you can transition easier and you don’t have to put a lot of damage into your hair all at once.

If you are interested in making the change overnight it is definitely possible. It’s just going to take some time and cost you a good chunk of your paycheck. We think if you’re adamant on going for an extreme change in one day you could just book a couple of appointment times but it’s very doable. If you’re willing to sit through and pay for a few hours of bleaching then you can definitely do it.

best-hair-color-salons-upper-east-side-nyc-best-balayage-highlights-nyc

Picking the right shade of blonde depends on your natural hair color and skin tone. The darker you are the more golden and warm tones you’ll have. If you’re more of a natural dark blonde or light brown then you should go for more of a cooler ashier tone. Coloring your hair with bleach can cause a lot of damage so in order to keep your hair as healthy as possible schedule a haircut following your color. You always want to cut off your dead ends whenever you bleach them. It prevents the hair from breaking when you get a haircut right away. Also, to minimize and prevent major damage we offer the OLAPLEX treatment.

Maintaining your beautiful blonde ‘do doesn’t just mean regular trips to the salon — keeping your hair shiny and healthy starts at home. When you bleach your hair blonde you definitely want to take care of it at home with a lot of conditioning treatments. Be careful with blow drying because the more heat you put on your hair the more damage you cause. Finding a good shampoo and conditioner to keep the integrity of the hair. L’Oreal Pro-Fiber Shampoo Conditioner & Leave-In is outstanding to maintain the hair healthy! As far as how often you should go back to the salon we say every 6-8 weeks if you had a base color change and 7-8 weeks if you have blonde highlights and 4-6 months if you had the perfect balayage highlights.

The time is now ladies! We personally believe that anyone can be any shade of blonde if it’s done well. Anyone can be a blonde if it’s placed right if it’s an nice blonde if it’s even and if the hair is healthy.

Best L’Oreal Hair Color Correction Salons NYC. Single Process vs. Double Process

Best L’Oreal Hair Color Correction Salons NYC. Majirel, Dia Light, Dia Richesse & Ammonia Free INOA Hair Color Salons NYC!

Definition: Single Process and Double Process Color — Yes, There’s a Difference! We are the Best L’Oreal Hair Color Correction Salons NYC!

So you’re at the salon looking over the color treatment service menu and you get a little puzzled. Should you have the single process color or should you go for the double process? Well one thing’s for sure: single process will probably take a little less time and save you money.

best l'oreal hair color correction salons nyc

Single Process means that a new color or toner is applied all over to create a new base color that is probably only 2 shades lighter than your natural hair color (virgin hair). The hair is lifted and deposited in one easy step. It’s the most common out of the two and it’s wonderful for covering grays and adding shine to dull hair.

Double Process is typically used when lightening hair by more than two shades. First the hair is bleached to remove natural or colored hair pigments and then pigment is added into the hair to create the desired shade. To avoid hair drama leave this one to the pros. Remember, box dye is NOT easy to remove and may take up-to 6 hours to achieve your desired color. Double process does NOT mean single process w/highlights or adding highlights and lowlights.

Some of the most asked questions that always come up in our salon are about the “Bleach-Out” for a Double Process lightening service.

Whats the easiest way to do a virgin bleach-out? What color should the hair be for a good bleach-out? How do you bleach-out some one with tinted hair? How do you do a bleach-out on someone that already has bleached highlights? These are not easy to answer questions so unfortunately we will not be able to answer on those questions in full detail. That’s why we encourage everyone to schedule a complimentary in-salon consultation with one of our L’Oreal hair color specialists.

best-loreal-hair-color-correction-salons-nyc-color-correction-salons-nyc

What to Look for in a good bleach-out (double process) — The appropriate color to look for in a good bleach-out will depend on the toner used. The toner manufacturer will usually advise a pre-bleach-out to a specific color like gold yellow or pale yellow. The reason for this is because the tertiary colors in toner are specifically designed to work with that specific shade of prelightened hair.

When doing a Double Process the bleach-out is the most important step in the whole process. If the bleach-out is not done correctly there is no way that the finished product will look right. Some hair types or previously applied color may result in 2 to 3 bleach-out double processes.

Ammonia free hair color has gained popularity over the past few years. L’Oreal started the trend with their wildly popular INOA hair color line. Other brands have followed in L’Oreal’s footsteps and released their own line of ammonia free hair color. L’Oreal was the first major hair color line to release an ammonia free hair color INOA so it would make sense that they rate high on the stylist appreciation scale. This ammonia free hair color promises major coverage while maintaining the highest level of integrity of the hair. The cuticle remains nourished and protected and vibrant rich hair color with over 40 shades to choose from.

NO ODOR AMMONIA FREE. OPTIMAL SCALP COMFORT. REINFORCED COVERAGE OF WHITE HAIR UP TO 100%. UNIFORMITY LONG-LASTING 6 WEEKS OF INTENSE HYDRATION AND NUTRITION. HAIR IS SOFTER AND SHINIER THAN BEFORE HAIR COLORING!

NEW: ODS² TECHNOLOGY (Oil Delivery System²)  — The only technology that uses the power of oil to truly maximize the coloring action with minimum concentration of alkaline agent. For the first time INOA a real permanent ammonia-free color while ensuring optimal hair care and scalp comfort now in 2 parts. Over 20 patents filed.

loreal-inoa-ammonia-free-color-salons-nyc

WHAT IS IT? L’Oreal Professionnel the popular professional hair color brand made lot of noise about its innovation in hair color called INOA (Innovation No Ammonia) which uses a new oil delivery system. This means that it has zero odour and no ammonia (a dream come true for hair color regulars). With the invention of INOA with its ODS technology engine a new dimension in comfort and coloring has evolved. In the regular version of the color ammonia the necessary alkaline agent is added so that it can lift the hair cuticles for colour deposition on the strands. However this left the strands swollen and dry leading to damage. Besides the damage the smell of ammonia during and after application can be really offensive to your nose. L’Oreal Research has found this new color delivery mechanism which uses mineral oil to act as the catalyst for depositing color on the strands. This means it is gentler on the strands and scalp is also protected. Your strands do not get weakened during the colouring process and there is no smell.

AVAILABILITY AND PRICES: INOA currently is available as a professional color treatment that you can get done at any hair salon that uses L’Oreal colors. Most top salons across the country offer this coloring service. Today INOA is available in about 40 shades ranging from browns, chocolate, burgundy, caramel, mahogany, honey, blond, ash blonde and more. The colorist can blend the colors to match your skin tone which is a blessing for a girl whose complexion goes from fair to wheat to tanned. You can go up to three shades light or dark depending on your mood and get 100 percent grey coverage. The pricing of the product is slightly more expensive than other L’Oreal Professionnel salon hair color service like Majirel.
