Many women we see over-highlight their hair. Highlights should complement your natural color, so we often use lowlights to tone them down and temper the frosted look. Lowlights help create a vibrant hair color that brings out your skin tone and eye color. Your hair color should never detract from your complexion, and too many highlights can make your skin look faded. We recommend adding lowlights every third time you get your hair highlighted. They will help blend your highlights with your natural color, and you won’t have to run to the salon with dark roots every six weeks.
Which is right for you?
Women with dark hair should not go more than three shades lighter than their natural color with highlights. In terms of lowlights, tones of red and tortoise (a blend of copper and gold) colors work best. When brown hair lightens naturally, it has to go through shades of red first. Thus red lowlights make highlights look much more natural on brunettes.

Natural blondes have more range in terms of highlights and don’t have to adhere firmly to the three-shade rule. Gold and copper lowlights are best, especially for blondes with very fair skin. They prevent the color from becoming brassy and won’t wash out a pale complexion. When mixing highlights and lowlights, the colors should be well blended and natural. Also, don’t have the back of your head highlighted too heavily. The sun naturally lightens the front of your hair, so highlighting too much in the back will detract from the natural feel of your color.

Generally, going a little darker in winter is best. Darker lights are better for skin that is often paler in winter and won’t drain the color from the face. In summer, try a lighter color of highlights. It’s best not to attempt highlights and lowlights at home. Unlike single-process color, it’s a customized process. Each shade must be carefully blended to enhance your hair color and complement your skin tone.

Introducing Ombre Highlights Trend! The French-termed hair trend features darker, more natural hues at the roots with gradually-dyed lightening at the ends. It’s been spotted on plenty of A-list celebs: Chanel Iman, Jennifer Hudson, Naomi Campbell, Raven-Symone, Khloe Kardashian and many others. Finally, a trend that doesn’t require a busy woman of the world to run to the salon every 8-12 weeks for a touch-up!

This style of coloring really became more popular when Khloe Kardashian appeared on Keeping Up with The Kardashians, the color faded to a touch of blonde on the ends. However, if done properly, the process can create quite the bill at the check-out of Fine Artistik Salon, so here’s what you should know:

1. Consider your profession and future aspirations before you go with the bolder shades.
The A-listers have started a trend that essentially looks like “grown out” color, which, thankfully, makes it easier on those of us who just don’t have the time to traipse to the salon every few weeks for a retouch. However, remember, the more creative a person chooses to be with their color shading, the more attention they may acquire.

2. Choose shades that will compliment your skin tone as well as wardrobe choices.
A person can choose one to three colors to shade for the “Ombre” effect. In the warmer months, shoot for lighter, more vibrant shades and in the winter months, choose cooler, more ash tones. For a dark chocolate beauty: deep reds, coppers, and cool ash make for beautiful choices. For the caramel-coated lovely: rich browns, coppers, possibly even violets (depending on career character). For the fair maiden: ash tones, subdued blondes, golden caramel tones will add warmth to her olive skin. But of course talk to our color specialists and both can agree on the color that best suites you and your personality and accomedates your features.

3. If there has been a previous color, you WILL NOT be able to achieve the “Ombre” effect successfully without some color correction (or maybe even more drastic measures).

reverse ombre: blonde hair with darker ends…

two-tone hair color remains popular. So far, mostly brunettes embraced the trend. Not to be left out, blondes now reverse the shading from light to darker ends. In our gallery, popular stars show attractive ombre coloring choices for blondes.

Are you blonde and want to spice up your hair color? Give reverse ombre hair coloring a try! In terms of color, the word ombre refers to shading from light to dark, dark to light or from one color to another. So far, mostly brunettes embraced hair color transitions from dark to light. Now, blondes have joined the trend by coloring the hair ends in a darker shade. The transition to a darker shade usually starts at ear level.

ombre hair from blonde to darker ends: selecting attractive color transitions…

Your hair colour choices should always flatter your natural complexion. Dark brown combines well with every shade of blonde. For olive skin, hair color transitions from blonde to fawn-brown, chestnut brown or shades of mahogany are exceptionally stylish. Red and coppery tones suit women with light complexions.

Kristin Cavallari’s complexion shows the healthy glow of days in the sun, and her eye colour is on the darker side. Her variation of the ombre look suits her natural coloring perfectly. The honey blonde hair near the roots transitions to brown toward the ends. Her hair is colored darker close to her neck and shows only few darker accents in the covering hair. This gives her hair color the natural appearance.

Coloring blonde hair requires a special touch and most importantly, adherence to the coloring directions. Otherwise, unintended hair colors may be the result.

Ombre hair coloring appears particularly natural if the hair close to the roots already shows a darker natural color. The hair ends should be colored in shades, which resemble the natural hair color.

You can further accentuate your ‘reverse ombre’ hair color by using sea salt spray. Generously apply the sea salt spray to the still damp hair after shampooing. Beach waves will automatically appear as your hair dries.

Ombre hair coloring works best in combination with accurate middle parting and soft waves. Use extra-gloss hair spray to enhance the color effects.

Ombre hair appears particularly trendy with steep color transition. Don’t be timid if you like to try the ombre look from light to dark or from dark to light.
